Time is very very important. A minute which you spend doing something which gives no satisfaction, piles onto your mountain of wasted time. This statement although sounds very philosophical has a profound meaning. Count all those minutes and you may end up in many years of your life wasted. Almost everybody suffers from this.
I am no different, give me two days of holiday and many times I end of not doing anything productive during those two days, and I repent it every other time. But there are times when I have spent whole my day productively, and I feel very satisfied at the end of it. And every such day the same thought comes to my mind, a single day can make a lot of difference. I could have spent every 24 hours of free time doing what I really wanted to do, read that novel from Agatha Christie or read the article in economist or go to gym and burn fat or......and so on. But I invariably end up doing stuff which has little importance and gives partial satisfaction to me. I wonder how can I change that.
I read in newspapers and magazines that all the successful people don't waste a single minute of their life. That sounds very perfect, but I wonder how can they do that. How could you possibly not waste a single minute. How could your brain be always thinking about the right things. I tried to copy this sometimes, keeping my brain busy with the stuff which my heart says that I like, but after some time, the brain invariably goes into the slumber where it wanders to all sorts of grey stuff (read day dreaming). Whether it is travelling to a place by train, or walking in a garden my mind wanders. And day dreaming is the last thing on my list of satisfying activities.
People say meditation helps. But if I go by the definition of meditation, which I know, that means ->remove all thoughts from your brain. Told in other words it basically means stop dreaming. I would have done that if I had control over my dreams.
The basic point is, you could be dreaming most of the time, if you don't try to fix it. But a simple solution has helped me. I have put an alarm in my computer which buzzes every 15 minutes and tells me not to dream. This may sound a crazy solution and may not work all the time. But for past 1 week it is working for me. Whenever I am working on my laptop and surfing the net, my computer prevents me from dreaming or doing anything purposeless for more than 15 mintues. It can be a nuisance when you haven't wandered, but the pain is worth it if it prevents the waste pile from growing.
The time limit of 15 minutes is just a random number. I hope to increase it as I improve myself.
